Just by watching, I almost had to call my chiropractor

July 30, 2010

I’m sitting here watching the Women’s Super X Final  in X Games 16 getting ready to start in Los Angeles.

As I watch an overview of the course, a few things run through my mind:

  1. How the heck do they get all of that dirt into the LA Coliseum? A quick google tells me that it takes three million shovels of dirt to prepare the LA Coliseum for X Games 16.
  2. What are they going to do with all of that dirt when they’re done? Mr. Google had no answers and if you know, please leave a comment below because inquiring minds want to know.
  3. Surely if they can construct these impressive hills and jumps, even turning the seating area in the Coliseum into a dirt-covered ramp, then I should be able to do something more creative with a mole hill in my backyard.

So the gate drops and the women take-off – flying through the air and bouncing over hills with so many bone-jarring landings that I feel the need to schedule a visit to the chiropractor from just watching them.

And then at the end, 19-year-old Ashley Fiolek takes first place – for the second consecutive year.

She takes off all the protective gear, grabs the world’s largest size can of Red Bull that I’ve ever seen, and gets ready to begin her interview with the ESPN reporter about just winning the race – only she doesn’t say a word. Instead, her father starts using sign language to translate the reporter’s questions and then interpreting Ashley’s signed responses. Ashley is profoundly deaf, and has been since birth.

If you’re not familiar with Ashley’s background, here are some factoids about her that I’m quoting from the Honda Powersports website:

1. She’s the defending 2009 AMA/WMA Women’s Motocross Champion.
2. She’s the first woman to ever be on the Honda Red Bull factory MX team.
3. In 2009. Ashley was looking to wrap up the series when, while running in second place, she crashed and broke her collarbone. And this wasn’t just a crack—the X-rays would show a big break and a substantial bone displacement. This would have sidelined any rider, but Ashley remounted and continued over jumps, ruts and whoops to finish seventh, saying later: “When I crashed, I knew I had to get back up and keep going,” commented the bandaged Ashley after the race. “I was in a lot of pain, but I couldn’t let my team or fans down.”

Wow! What an inspiring series of accomplishments and I’m sure the best is yet to come for this young woman.

So congratulations to Ashley Fiolek with the 2010 Honda Red Bull Racing Team for winning the Women’s Super X Final.

And if you too are watching the games and thinking the rush of the wind would feel good but maybe not with all the bumps and bruises, then don’t forget to join us on our very non-X-Game, leisurely ride to the Ozarks on September 19th. Honda Motorcycle Parts: Just a Mouse Click Away

July 27, 2010

Shopping online for Honda Motorcycle Parts can be time consuming and confusing. A recent Google search showed that there are over 8 million websites offering Honda Motorcycle Parts and Accessories. If you visit any of these sites you will quickly discover four main problems:

  1. Many of the sites have a very difficult ordering process, forcing you to go through endless online catalog pages to get to the part you need.
  2. At other sites, you’ll spend a lot of time working your way through lists of Honda motorcycles and categories only to discover that if you don’t have the exact part number you need – you’re completely out of luck.
  3. Most of the sites ask you to commit to buying online without telling you the shipping price which could easily outweigh the online savings for some parts.
  4. And finally, as with online sites in many industries, it is hard to tell if you’re dealing with a reputable dealer selling genuine Honda motorcycle parts, or some kid selling salvaged parts out of his basement.

StLouisHondaCycleParts.com decided to take a completely different approach to helping customers find the exact Honda Motorcycle Part that they need.

“With over 15,000 Honda Motorcycle Parts available, we found that even the most advanced, online ordering system still ended up being confusing for customers,” said Tim Bonagurio, general manager of Dave Mungenast Motorsports. “So, we completely stripped down our old system, and created a new, easy to use website for the customer.”

And that was the beginning of the very successful StLouisHondaCycleParts.com.

Here is how it works: whether the part you need is a popular one or a hard to find part from 1982, simply fell out our form telling us the year, model and name of the part and we’ll take it from there. We’ll search our database and locate just the part you need. Then, usually within a few business hours, we’ll give you a call to let you know the exact price and shipping charges. You’re under no obligation and we do all the work for you. We can help you with Honda Motorcycle Accessories too.

Our goal is to find you the right Honda motorcycle part or accessory, at the right price, right away!

When you’re ready to order, we can either ship the part to you anywhere in the country – or you can pick it up at our store.

A little about us…

July 27, 2010

In 1965 Dave Mungenast left his position as store manager of Bob Schultz Imported Motorcycles and opened St.Louis Honda which was at 6820 Gravois in south St.Louis. The store remained at that location for ten years selling many different brands of motorcycles including the popular English Triumph, Swedish made Husqvarna, and Austrian made Penton.

In 1975 Dave had an opportunity to become a Honda Auto dealer and constructed a new store on South Lindbergh Blvd. This dealership was unique in that it was one of very few businesses selling both Honda Motorcycles and Automobiles in the same facility.

The business was very successful, winning numerous manufacturers awards in both product lines. With an ever increasing customer base and larger quantities of product becoming available, another motorcycle-only building was constructed at 5935 South Lindbergh in St.Louis in 1985.
Dave’s long time association with American Honda has a very colorful past including entering the grueling Baja California, Mexico off road race on a prototype XL350, winning the 24 hour Marathon at Riverdale Speedway giving Honda its first National Championship victory and representing Honda in world competition during the International Six Day Trials held in Czechoslovakia.

The Mungenast family has a long history in the motorcycle industry and continues today by offering our customers a complete line of Honda products. Our newly renovated facility was completed in 2005, and showcases our new Honda inventory of Honda Motorcycles, Honda Scooters, Honda ATVs, Honda Personal Watercraft (PWC) and a full line of Honda Power Equipment, including Honda Generators and Honda Lawn Mower and Equipment.
